Chalis Yoga in Maryville, TN
You may have arrived on this page from chalisyoga.com.
Unfortunately, Chalis Yoga at 325 Whitecrest Drive in Maryville, TN is no longer in business. The good news is, there’s plenty more yoga in Maryville, TN, including private study, so please keep reading.
Chalis means 40 in Hindi, and the Sanskrit word chalisa is a prayer in 40 verses, like the Hanuman Chalisa, a poem exalting the feats of the deity Hanuman.
Numerologically, the number 40 plays prominently in a number of traditions — In the Judaic tradition, the Great Flood lasted 40 days and nights, Moses wandered in the desert for 40 years, Moses spent 40 days on Mt. Sinai, and Elijah spent 40 days and nights fasting on his journey to the mountain.
In Christianity, Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness for 40 days. He also walked on Earth for 40 days after his resurrection. Lent lasts 40 days.
The number 40 also plays prominently in Islam and ancient Egyptian religion.
It is seen as a period of cleansing, trial, and transformation.
Yoga sadhanas, periods of spiritual striving, also often last 40 days.
And my guess is that none of this has anything to do with why Chalis Yoga was named as it was. But I don’t really know.
